Edmonton Wildcats 2017

The Saskatoon Hilltops put on another offensive show while defeating the Edmonton Wildcats 51-0 on a cloudy and cool Sunday afternoon at Saskatoon Minor Football Field. The three-time defending PFC and Canadian Bowl champions racked up 601 yards in offense while grinding out 381 yards on the ground.

Adam Machart (pictured) was the star of the show putting up an impressive 221 yards on 12 carries including a 73 yard run for a touchdown early in the third quarter. He stepped in for the injured Logan Fischer who scored his 11th touchdown of the season five minutes into the game on a third and one play from the Wildcats one-yard line. The fifth-year running was shut down for the rest of the game shortly after.

Jordan Walls connected with Ryan Turple on a 75-yard touchdown toss just past the 11-minute mark of the first quarter to give the Hilltops a 15-0 lead. Turple got in behind coverage and Walls threw a perfect pass that Turple caught in full flight and sprinted untouched into the end zone.

Walls also threw touchdown passes to Tanner Rhode and Sam Mike before coming out of the game in the third quarter. Ben Abrook raced into the end zone from 18 yards out at 5:23 of the fourth quarter. James Vause who hasn't missed a point-after-touchdown in 36 attempts, converted all six majors also kicked two field goals from 11 and 35 yards. A missed field goal attempt from 30 yards away went through the end zone for a single point. The Wildcats also conceded a safety on the first play of the second quarter.

The Hilltops clinched at least second place in the Prairie Football Conference with the win and home-field advantage for the PFC semi-final on Oct. 15, against either Regina or Winnipeg and face the unbeaten Huskies Saturday in Edmonton in a showdown for first place in the final regular-season standings. The winner will host the Rifles and whoever finishes second will host the Thunder.

Saturday's game from the Alberta capital starts at 7 p.m. with coverage on 92.9 THE BULL getting underway at 6;30.
