Okanagan Sun

vs

Despite a flight delay in Saskatoon on Saturday morning, it appeared as though the Hilltops were the only team to show up to their inter-conference game on Saturday afternoon at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna, as they dominated the Okanagan Sun 58-2 in a rematch of last year’s CJFL Canadian Bowl.

Saskatoon (5-1) came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a 14-0 lead within three minutes of the game starting thanks to a nine-yard touchdown run from Logan Fischer and 19-yard passing touchdown from quarterback Jared Andreychuk to Mike Sam. Fisher would add another touchdown later in the first to put the Hilltops up 21-0.

The Sun (6-2) put their first points up on the board in the final minutes of the first quarter, forcing Saskatoon to take a safety and cutting the lead to 21-2. Those would be the only points the Sun would earn.

A power outage in the last minute of the second quarter cut the first half short, but not before the Hilltops added a field goal from James Vause, a touchdown by receiver Jason Price and a safety to take a 33-2 lead into the dressing room.

Points continued to be added to the Hilltops side of the scoreboard in the second half as the visiting team recorded another two touchdowns —one from Sam and one from Andreychuk— as well as a single in the third quarter, and finished off the game with a field goal from Vause and a touchdown from Justyn Lightle in the fourth.

As hot as the Hilltops offence was, the defense also had a stellar game, holding the Sun to 111 yards rushing and Sun quarterback Keith Zyla to only five of 15 passes for 60 yards.
